Hassan Ayariga Has Threatened To Kill Me - PNC Chairman - Meikankan

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) says the party’s 2012 flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga has threatened to kill him.

According to Bala Meikankan, the former party leader sent some gun and machete wielding thugs to his office to end his life.

The attack, he said, was necessitated by the belief of Hassan Ayariga that he, [Bala] is scheming for his defeat in the party’s upcoming primaries on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Bolgatanga in the Upper East region.

The 2012 presidential candidate who is seeking re-election is facing stiff competition from three-time flagbearer, Dr. Edward Mahama.

Most of the party members are said to be calling for a change in leadership after the PNC’s bad showing in the 2012 elections.

Mr. Ayariga is accusing some national and regional executives of plotting his defeat by campaigning vigorously against him.

But Bala Meikankan on Asempa FM Thursday described the claim by Mr. Ayariga as palpably false.

He claims the decision to send the thugs to murder him is because 'Dr. Ayariga is a bitter man and will do anything to get revenge.'

Mr. Meikankan who claims he escaped the assailants through the back door of his office was grateful to still be alive.

“After the attack, Hassan Ayariga called and vowed not to let me see tomorrow for campaigning against him,” he alleged.

What has heightened his fear, Bala said is because Hassan Ayariga is noted to be someone who carries out his threats.

The PNC chairman claimed he is not surprised at the conduct of the 2012 presidential candidate since he [Ayariga] has gained notoriety for using thugs from Bawku to terrorise party members who oppose him.

Bala Meikankan said he has lodged a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters for prompt action to be taken.
