I'm Still At Post; I'll Go To Court If... - Sammy Crabbe

The 2nd Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has rejected the unanimous verdict of the National Executive Committee of the party suspending him.

Sammy Crabbe insists he still remains at post and will go to court if he is prevented from carrying out his duties as second vice chairman.

Both Crabbe and the General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong were suspended by the National Executive Committee of the party on Thursday after a marathon meeting.

The Committee unanimously accepted the decision by the Disciplinary Committee of the party which considered a number of petitions brought against the two national executives.

The petitioners accused the two executives of misconduct when they violated the party's constitution by going against a collective decision taken by the party's structures to suspend the National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

The two had publicly rubbished the decision by the Disciplinary Committee to suspend Paul Afoko.

When their alleged misconduct was brought before the disciplinary committee, Kwabena Agyepong respectfully submitted himself to the process and was reported to have apologised for his behaviour.

Sammy Crabbe on the other hand refused to appear before the committee, challenging its authority to discipline him.

On Thursday, the National Executive Committee announced its unanimous decision to suspend the two executives.

There has been divided opinion on the decision but Sammy Crabbe remains adamant.

He told Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah he does not recognise the decision taken by the National Executive Committee.

He said whilst he recognises the Disciplinary Committee as a structure within the NPP, he does not recognise its jurisdiction in this matter of suspension.

He said if he is assigned any duty by the suspended Chairman of the party, he will not hesitate at all in performing that function.

He added he will go to court if he is prevented from carrying out his mandate and duties assigned him by the suspended chair.

The Deputy head of the Political Desk at Joy FM, Malik Abass Daabu in analysing the recent development in the NPP said that while Sammy Crabbe insists on being at post, it will be difficult for him to function in that role.

He said Crabbe had stated publicly that he would not attend any meeting called by the acting chair of the party, Freddy Blay because he does not recognise him as chair.

"But we know it is Freddie Blay who will be calling the steering committee meetings. He will be the one calling the National Executive Committee meetings from now on. How do you function as the second vice chair of the party if you don't attend those meetings?" he asked.
