NALAG must ensure smooth endorsement of presidents nominees-Ganyaglo

Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, on Friday asked the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), to ensure the “smooth” confirmation of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives appointed by the President.

He asked the Association to “work” on Assembly members to approve the nominees massively to fast-track development projects being undertaken by the Assemblies.

Mr Ganyaglo was addressing the Volta Regional NALAG Delegates Conference in Ho.

He said: “we are having too many problems with Assembly members not approving the President’s nominees and this is not good for the Assemblies and the country.”

Mr Ganyaglo said the nominees were potential NALAG members; hence the Association had a role to play in ensuring that they were endorsed peacefully and massively.

Alhaji Doku Mohammed, NALAG President, asked the Assemblies to strengthen and support the Association to play its advocacy role.

He announced plans for Assembly and Presiding members to be given some fuel allowance and remuneration, and MMDCEs placed among Article 71 office holders.

Alhaji Mohammed said the Association was also opening regional secretariats to decentralize its operations.

Mr Sylvester Tornyeava, Keta Municipal District Chief Executive and the Volta Regional NALAG Representative, said the region had established a secretariat, and was working to redeem the sinking image of the Association.
