Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured the people of Amenfi West, and the entire Ghanaian populace, that change, from the severe economic hardships they are facing under President Mahama’s National Democratic Congress government, is coming to Ghana in 2016.
Campaigning in the Amenfi West constituency on Saturday, December 12, 2015 ahead of the December 15 by-election, the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party urged constituents to vote for the party’s candidate, Lawyer Paul Denkyi, and also for him in the 2016 presidential election, as the constituency and the nation will witness a massive improvement in the standards of living of the people. Addressing a Youth Forum at a packed town hall in Asankragwa, Nana Akufo-Addo acknowledged that many Ghanaians, considering the current state of the nation, appear to have lost hope in the ability of Ghana to offer a decent living to its citizens.
He urged them not to give up on Ghana, but have faith that with the right leadership pursuing the right policies, Ghana will become a country of progress and prosperity.
“Do you believe that Ghana can be a nation where there’ll be jobs for the youth, and where there is wealth and prosperity? Do you have that belief?” Akufo-Addo asked, to a deafening roar of “Yes” by the audience.
“Then, do you believe that we must bring in a government that will institute policies which will bring jobs for the youth and prosperity for all? Do you have that belief?” for which the audience, once again, responded in the affirmative.
“If you do, then I am asking you to help bring back the ‘Elephant’ to the Jubilee House. The process of bringing back the elephant has begun, and Tuesday will be another step in the journey. I am urging all of you to go to your respective polling stations in your numbers and ensure that we have a free, fair and credible election, because when we have that, the Elephant will win”, he said.
An NPP victory in Tuesday’s by-election, difficult though it appears to be, Nana Akufo-Addo added, will spur Ghanaians on to “rise up and believe that the change we seek is coming. Change is coming to Ghana in 2016. Paul Denkyi winning and going to Parliament on the ticket of the NPP will be part of the process of change.”
Courtesy call on Asankragwa Chief
Prior to the town hall meeting, Nana Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on the Acting President of the Asankragwa Traditional Area, Nana Adu Boahen, Gyaasehene of Asankragwa.
He was happy to be in the palace as custom requires.
Commenting on the fears expressed by the Secretary of Traditional Council that the election of 2016 could turn violent, Nana Akufo-Addo stressed that “if there will be disturbances in Ghana, it will not come from the NPP. Our record, evident in our actions in the aftermath of the 2008 and 2012 elections which were close affairs, speaks for itself. The NPP is committed to the peace and stability of the nation, not just by words, but also by deeds.”
He asked for the blessings of the Chiefs for the NPP’s candidate, stating that “I have confidence in Paul Denkyi. He will be a good advocate in Parliament for the people of Amenfi West.”
Earlier on Saturday, Nana Akufo-Addo and the leadership of the NPP joined hundreds of mourners, including the Speaker and Members of Parliament, Ministers of the ruling NDC government, NDC National Exectuives, in bidding farewell to the late John Gyetua, the former NDC Member of Parliament for Amenfi West, whose death has necessitated the conduct of Tuesday’s by-election.
