Govít Allocates GHC500 Million To YEA

Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, has said government has made a budgetary allocation of GHc500 million to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) formally called GYEEDA for its work in 2016.

According to him the amount will be put into a dedicated to facilitate the work of YEA.

“Our budget for 2016 will be up to GHC500 million and we may be able to engage on the basis of our capacity,” he added.

Haruna Iddrisu made the revelation during a visit to the YEA head office in Accra last Friday.

He used the opportunity to announce government’s new community improvement programme under the YEA.

This new community improvement programme is expected to enable the YEA to recruit youth to render varying services in the various CHPS compounds across the country.

Haruna Iddrisu also said over 100,000 youth are expected to benefit from the YEA programme.

Speaking to Citi News after the visit, Haruna Iddrisu pointed out that more modules will be operational next year.

He revealed that the sanitation module in particular will be able to recruit between 20,000 and 45,000 persons.

“The sanitation module will be dedicated to a certain percentage of the common fund which will also be allocated for that purpose so that will allow us to recruit at least some 20,000 to 45,000 persons merely on that particular module.”

Mr Iddrisu also said he expects the Ghana Education Trust Fund to lend a hand to the operations of the YEA.

“We also expect that the Community Education Assistance will be funded from GETfunded with 5 percent which was also earmarked,” the minister added.
