'Wish Your MP Good Night Before He Goes To Work' - Ghanaians Advised

"The President is right, as usual. Our MPs have been sleeping. The next time you see an MP going to work, just wish him/her "good night," he said in a Facebook post.

President Mahama during one of his campaign tours in the Volta Region questioned the minority MPs for their incessant criticisms that his admistration keeps increasing Ghana's debt stock with borrowing.

“They say this government has borrowed a lot of money and they don’t know what we have done with the money. Then it means they are sleeping in Parliament” President Mahama stated but the comments attracted indignation from the minority MPs who threatened to sabotage government agendas in the House.

But following the latest revelation by a Norwegian newspaper publication that claimed Ghana purchased the AMERI plant at an inflated amount of 510 million dollars, Mr. Ankomah appears to support the President's assertion.

His comment stemmed from the fact that the agreement regarding the said purchase went to Parliament and received approval. He said that the controversial AMERI agreement was rushed through Parliament by a waiver of Standing Order 81 under the leadership of  Cletus Avoka, which was seconded by minority MP, K.T. Hammond

"Mr Speaker, I beg to second the Motion. In doing so, I simply adopt quite a lot of what the acting Chairman has said and indeed, the entire gamut of what the Report has stated.

Mr Speaker, it is just also to make this point. There has been some suggestions that the equipment in question is actually a second rate equipment. We sought assurances from the Hon Minister for Power and that the nation was not putting all this money in this venture for us to receive a second rate equipment. The Hon Minister was categorical that this is first rate brand new equipment and indeed, was quite happy that at the time of inspection, we can have some people to go and have a look at it and satisfy ourselves if this was the case. This is important because there has been a sort of talk and that this equipment is not really a brand new one. I thought this should be brought to the attention of the House.

Mr Speaker, I think quite a lot has already been said by the Chairman and I do not intend to belabour the point,"  Mr. Ankomah quoted from the Parliamentary Hansard of March 20th, 2015.
