Parliament Must Charge Power Minister For Perjury... - Kabila Tells MPs

James Kwabena Bomfeh has charged Ghana's Parliament to prosecute Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor for perjury.

According to the CPP former General Secretary, Dr. Kwabena Donkor peddled falsehood on the floor of the House by bloating figures of a deal he signed with the Africa and Middle East Resources Investment Groups (Ameri Energy).

The deal was worth 510 million dollars.

Further investigations by a Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang (VG) showed that the Government of Ghana had acquired ten gas turbines form a company called Ameri Group, which should cost 220 million dollars but the contract credited 510 million dollars.

Dr. Kwabena Donkor reportedly signed the deal seven months ago.

The Norwegian newspaper has also disclosed that the man from Oslo named Umar Farooq Zahoor - who signed the deal as a witness of His Royal Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, a member of the ruling family in Dubai, as claimed by Dr Donkor - is wanted by the Norwegian and Swiss police for fraud.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, James Kwabena Bomfeh, affectionately called Kabila, told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that investigations conducted by him also reveal that the Minister lied to Parliament when addressing his fellow members on the deal.

According to him, the Minister informed the House that the deal cost 411 million dollars when the actual amount was 220 million dollars.

He further noted that his research indicated that the gas turbines are manufactured by a company called General Electric which is based in Ghana.

Let me state for a fact that General Electric is in Ghana. They operate in Ghana. They live in Ghana. They work in Ghana.

The gas turbine is sold between 18 million to 22 million dollars per turbine, he stated.

He said Algeria bought 8 turbines at a cost of 160 million dollars meaning 20 million dollars per turbine.

Kabila therefore wondered why the Power Minister would enter into such suspicious deal with the non-existent Ameri Group.

He earnestly called on Parliament to haul Dr. Kwabena Donkor before the Privileges Committee and probe him to unearth the truth.

The recent revelations prove that he peddled falsehood on the floor of the House. Parliament will have to call Dr. Kwabena Donkor for perjury…He was challenged on the floor of House. I’m giving you facts to show that the man committed perjury. He lied before that August House and we want to see how Members of Parliament will haul one of their own members before their Privileges Committee,” Kabila said.
