Suspensions Destroying NPP Crabbe

Sammy Crabbe, the suspended Second Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has predicted doom for the party in 2016, citing the incessant suspensions as the cause.

According to him, the suspension of a number of executives of the party, including himself, is “destroying the NPP and jeopardising our changes in 2016.”

Mr Crabbe, a perceived ally to the suspended National Chairman, Paul Afoko, was suspended indefinitely along with NPP General Secretary Agyepong for refusing to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee after several invitations.

According to the NPP, Mr Crabbe was accused of violating article 3 (D) of the party’s constitution and also, in conjunction with Mr Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong, launched party membership cards and fundraising activities without authorisation from the National Executive Committee (NEC).

But he insists his suspension is illegal, hence he will still hold on to the position.

Speaking on Citi FM’s news analysis programme on Saturday, The Big Issue, Sammy Crabbe explained that if the party is able to quickly iron out issues bothering it, it would be able to snatch power from the governing National Democratic Congress.

Mr Crabbe also advised that instead of suspending people from the party, the NPP should focus its attention and resources into ensuring that the NDC is removed from office come 2016.

“I believe that parties and institutions go through issues. I believe that if we recover quickly and allow our constitution to work, it will unite us and we shall win the election in 2016; if we don’t, we may be headed for trouble and I want to call people’s attention to it.”

The NPP had earlier suspended four other regional executives in the Ashanti Region for picketing at the party’s head office in Accra in protest of Paul Afoko’s suspension.
