EC Boss Faces Parliament Tomorrow

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei is billed to meet the Committee of the whole in Parliament tomorrow to brief members of the august house her outfit’s preparation towards the 2016 general elections.

The EC boss was to appear before the house somewhere last week but failed to show up. To this end she has been rescheduled to meet members on the floor of to elaborate further on the activities and preparedness of the commission to organize a free, fair and transparent elections come 2016.

Signals picked by Today have it that the issue of the voters register will be key of the agenda. It will be recall that the opposition New Patriotic party (NPP) and some other agencies have been mountain an intense pressure on the commission and its members to come up with a new voters register for the 2016 general elections.

For this reason the Commission set up a committee to investigate all the petitions, proposals and suggestions it received from all the political parties as well as the civil society organizations (CSOs).

Though the committee has finished it work and submitted its report, it is yet to be made public by the Commission.

Some members of parliament believed the ‘moment of truth’ has finally come for the EC Boss to make the commission’s intentions know to the general public.

Meanwhile, the house is expected to approve the sum of GHc826, 897,772 for the services of the electoral commission for the year ending 31st December 2016.
