Sir John Kicks Against 'Amnesty' For Suspended NPP Executives

Ex-New Patriotic Party General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has kicked against calls to grant suspended party executives a reprieve as the party seeks to rebuild for election 2016.

He said he fails to understand how granting the indisciplined party leaders the amnesty could help the cause of the party, equating the calls to releasing convicted criminals in jails because the country is going to the polls.

The latest of such calls for amnesty has come from a founding member of the party, Kwame Pianim, who Tuesday suggested it was time to let go of all the acrimonious relations in the party and regroup for power.

The party has recently suspended its National Chairman, Paul Afoko; General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong and Second Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe, for alleged misconduct.

But Sir John won’t have any of it, and told Accra based Citi FM that the suggestion won’t work.

“First of all I don’t know what he is talking about. Amnesty for what? For people who have shown utter indiscipline of the highest order to a party that they seek to work for? And if you go into any election with such indiscipline, I do not know how anybody could say that you could win elections also with such persons or a person exhibiting those indiscipline character”.

He also rebuffed claims by suspended party stalwart, Dr. Wereko-Brobby, that he cannot entrust the future of the country or his life in the hands of a party unable to resolve its differences.
