ECG Completes $4m Bulk Supply Station

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has completed a $4 million Bulk Supply Point (BSP) project at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region to enhance power supply in all 13 districts of the region.

This is the third BSP in the region aside three primary sub-stations and two switching stations.

Currently, the Eastern Region’s customer population is about 234,509 with a maximum demand of about 62 megawatts.
The project is envisaged to be commissioned soon.
Ahead of the commissioning, media personnel were taken on a tour of the facility on Saturday.

Regional General Manager Ing. Michael Baah and the Regional Engineer, Ing.  Emmanuel Ankomah conducted journalists drawn from various media houses round the ultra-modern facility.

It indicated that ECG in 2015 has invested GH¢10 million in 172 major and minor development projects to enhance its delivery in this year.

The project is to improve voltage supply and reliability to ensure customer satisfaction.

The regional manager intimated that ECG will undertake 115 regional development projects in 2016 to reinforce the existing network.

Ing. Baah noted that his outfit would soon rollout a programme to cover all district capitals and eventually replace all post-paid metres of their system to ensure regular payments for their commodity.

He said ECG has begun prosecuting defaulters who either do not pay up their bills or tamper with their metering system.

Ing Baah noted that the ECG would take serious action against offenders, including payment of 50 percent of indebtedness, as well as face prosecution.

He cited illegal connections, cable theft, land litigation, bushfire and illegal chainsaw operations as some of their major challenges.

Ing. Baah appealed to the general public and the media to collaborate with ECG to arrest and prosecute defaulters, especially cable thieves and those who connect power illegally.
