JOY 2012: Stop The "Hypocrisy" Chief Of Staff...A-G Reviewing Branded Bus Contract Is Useless!

The Independent Presidential Candidate in the 2012 presidential election, Jacob Osei Yeboah has described as “totally useless” the directive from the Chief of Staff to the Attorney-General for a review of the contract on spraying and branding of 116 new intra-city buses.

Is it because it’s a Ghanaian company? Why can’t government investigate the AMERI deal?” he quizzed.

The Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, waded into the controversy over the spraying and branding of 116 new intra-city buses, and directed the Attorney General Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong "to review the contract and associated payment(s)".

A letter to the Attorney General dated December 17, 2015 asked her to revert without fail with her findings by close of day December 22.

It was revealed in Parliament that government had made provision of GHC3, 649,000 for the re-branding of the buses meant for intra-city transportation.

The amount was reportedly drawn from the Petroleum Funds for 2015 and has caused intense public uproar.

Per the arrangement with Smarttys Management and Production, the company that undertook the exercise, branding for each bus cost the nation GHC31.000.

But Jacob Osei Yeboah in an interview with Peacefmonline.com sees nothing wrong with the contract – rather, he called on the Chief of Staff to stop his ‘hypocrisy’.

To him – even if Smarttys charges government such an amount to brand the buses – “The money will stay in Ghana.

The Chief of Staff should rather write to the Attorney General to review the AMERI deal and leave Ghanaian companies alone. Smarttys never asked government for soli. They money will be useful to Ghanaians,” he fumed.
