Shama District confirms Cobbina as DCE

Mr Eric Cobbina, 30, the Executive Director of a non –governmental organization, has been overwhelmingly confirmed by the Shama District Assembly as the District Chief Executive.

Three out of the 24 members present, however, voted against the President’s nominee.

The announcement of his success by the District Electoral Officer was received with spontaneous drumming and dancing by the gathering including traditional rulers, heads of departments and many residents wearing white attires.

Mr Cobbina, Executive Director of the Integrated Action of Development Initiative (IADI), a NGO with focus on governance and rural livelihood, was mobbed by the gathering after the announcement was made.

Earlier, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, urged the house to consider the developmental situation of the District saying a delay in choosing a political head could have negative impact the area.

He urged the assembly members to eschew divisive tendencies and vote in favour for the nominee.

Mr Cobbina expressed gratitude to the assembly members and the President saying he would work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in him.

He said some of his agenda for the term included the improvement and expansion of infrastructural facilities in educational institutions, ensuring that quality healthcare was provided by upgrading the district health center, the construction of more CHPS compounds among others.

Mr Samuel Borlu, the Presiding Member, called on members to regularly attend meetings and expedite work on activities and programmes.
