The Electoral Commission says media reports that it plans on spending 900 million dollars to compile a new electoral roll is false.
“The Commission wishes to state that it has not made any such submission on the cost of compilation of a new register,” a statement from the commission said.
Head of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjoe, had written to the EC demanding clarification of how the Commission arrived at the reported figure of $900 million, citing a news report by TV3 network.
Mr Cudjoe said in that letter “I am very sure every Ghanaian including me, will like to know how you arrived at what looks like an outrageous figure of $900m were the Commission to compile a new voter register”.
The EC Chair person, Charlotte Osei, wrote back to the IMANI boss, explaining, “It is untrue that we said a new register would cost $900m.”

MEDIA REPORTS ON COST OF NEW REGISTER
The Commission’s attention has been drawn to reports in the media that it has submitted that it will cost Nine Hundred Million Dollars ($900m) to compile a new voters register.
The Commission wishes to state that it has not made any such submission on the cost of compilation of a new register.
The reports are erroneous and without basis and must be disregarded.
