Military urged to maintain discipline

Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie, Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has urged the Military to exhibit discipline and continue to be an embodiment of professionalism to keep the country safe during the 2016 elections.

''The military is founded on discipline and as soldiers discipline should run through our blood and should not just be a virtue we are clothed with when in uniform and dumped when we retire',' he noted.

He indicated that the professional cohesion and duty to protect the integrity of the beloved country would be put to test but expressed optimism that the Military would always play their role effectively as they have exhibited in all past elections.

He said they should avoid allowing themselves to be used as agents to spread false rumours and half-truths.

''We should make every effort to find out and confirm whatever we read or hear and not allow ourselves to be deceived by a few disgruntled persons," he added.

Vice Admiral Quashie announced this at GAF carols service in Accra (Burma Hall) to commemorate the birth of Christ.

He said in the spirit of the Christmas season, military men should walk in the light of Christ and uphold moral excellence and virtues of loyalty, selfless devotion, vigilance and dedication to duty.

''The scriptural enlightenment that ‘In Him is life and the life is the light of men'' (John 1:4),’ may I admonish all to eschew the evil deeds of darkness typified by ignorance, misconduct and moral depravity.”

He said the reality of darkness in the world today is expressed in vices like terrorism, wars, oppression, sexual immorality, fraudulent and corrupt conducts, domestic violence, greed and false religiosity.

“Instead let us embrace the Lord Jesus, the light of the world and receive abundant life thereby,” he said.

The occasion was filled with classical music from the Army, Naval Choir and Air force Choirs, Mission to the Nation Choir, Sailors Echo and the General Headquarters Civilian Employment Choir.

Some representatives of the various departments read the nine lessons to celebrate and commemorate the birth of Christ and its essence to humanity.
