The Manhyia Palace Museum has received two prestigious national awards from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) for its tremendous contribution to tourism promotion in the country.

It won the best “visitor attraction” of the year award, with its curator, Mr. Justice Brobbey, adjudged the best “site guide” for year 2015.

A citation accompanying the awards applauded the staff for dedicated service and admirable communication skills.

This, it noted, helped to provide excellent information on the museum as well as the history of the Asante Kingdom and its people.

It had earlier in the year, been honoured with another award at the regional level for “consistency and tenacity” in providing quality service to visitors and tourists.

Mr. Brobbey told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, this would only inspire them to work with passion to assure visitors to the place of excellent services.

He said it was determined to maintain its lead as the most attractive tourism site in the Ashanti Region.

The museum was officially opened by the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II on August 12, 1995, to serve as the repository of authentic Asante history and information.

Alongside well-researched books and journals on the Asante history, culture, tradition, the kingdom and its people, the museum has a number of artifacts and regalia of ancient Asante Kings and Queens as well as their effigies, including that of the legendary Yaa Asantewaa, the Queen of Ejisu, who led the Asantes to war against the British in 1900.
