Police Must Disband Vigilante Groups In Political Parties- Security Analyst

Following a call by the Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee in Parliament on political parties to dissociate and ban all vigilante groups affiliated to them, the Ghana Police Service has been picked up and is ensuring it is enforced.

The move has earned the Police service a commendation from a Security Analyst, who believes the move is a step in the right direction. Mr. Irbad Ibrahim observes disbanding vigilante groups in political parties would enhance our practice of democracy.

Vigilante groups affiliated to political parties often serve as bodyguards for officials of the parties and have often instigated and perpetrated violence across the country, especially during elections.

And this makes Mr. Irbad Ibrahim believe it will not be an easy task because any political party the police clamps down on may see the national security as an enemy.

This may make that party mistreat the police when it is in power, he upheld.

Mr. Ibrahim therefore believes the police must do this in consultation with executives of political parties for smooth implementation.
