The board and management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have dismissed all allegations made by the Senior Staff Association against the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital, Dr Gilbert Buckle.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Monday in response to the allegations, the Board Chairman, Professor Anthony Mawuli Sallar said all the allegations were unfounded and unsubstantiated.
Professor Sallar said the hospital had not spent GH¢100 million on judgement debts which were alleged to have been paid to some staff who were wrongfully dismissed, thereby causing financial loss to the hospital.
According to him, no judgement debt had accrued to the hospital as a result of the actions, commissions or decisions of the CEO and the reconstituted board since they assumed office in September 2014.
Rather, he explained that a judgement debt of GHC875,809.53 had been incurred by the hospital from August 2011 to June 2014 when the CEO and board had not taken office.
Out of this amount, GHC250,304.16 had been paid as of August 2015.
For his part, the CEO of the hospital, Dr Buckle, said management was ready to settle any issues internally and appealed to the Senior Staff Association to make itself available for deliberations.
He assured the government and the public that management would work tirelessly to ensure the delivery of quality health care service and staff welfare improvement at all times.
The Senior Staff Association of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on December 9, 2015 called for the resignation of the CEO of the hospital over alleged mismanagement of hospital funds.
According to the association, the CEO had spent more than GHC100 million on judgement debts which were paid to some staff who were wrongfully dismissed, causing financial loss to the hospital.
It also alleged that the CEO’s personal travels were being sponsored by funds generated from the hospital, while the Central Pharmacy of the hospital was under-resourced.
