The aftermath of the Amenfi West by-election which saw the ruling National Democratic Congress retaining the seat after the death of their MP, the late Hon. Gyetuah has revealed that an Assembly man believed to be an NPP member nearly met his death at the hands of NDC youth at Trompan electoral area.

According to Hon. Alex Agyekum, he never offended any NDC member during the by-election to warrant such beatings which almost sent him to his early grave.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Hon. Alex Agyekum who doubles as NPP Coordinator for Trompan electoral area alleged the NDC youth nearly poured acid on him when he was lying on the floor motionless but the timely intervention of one Hon. Charles Bissiw who rushed him to the hospital saved his life.

But the Communication Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Solomon Nkansah reacting on the same platform said the NPP member got what he deserved; justifying that the victim led a group of young men suspecting to be members of NPP Invisible Forces to disrupt the by-election.

“In fact that the young man, if I say they didn’t beat him, I would be lying before God; he was severely beaten but the issue is that they believe in ‘All-die-be-die’. I was surprised the NPP Invisible Forces ran into the bush when some NDC youth from Techiman arrived at the electoral area…the opposition knows Amenfi West is our stronghold but the NPP youth decided to block the roads to scare people from voting,” he stated.

He narrated that one of the NDC youth called the party's hotline when the incident occured.

Solomon Nkansah accused the NPP of attempting to forment trouble at Amenfi by eavesdropping on private conversations between himself and Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC General Secretary and poking their noses in the voting process when the police were the only ones mandated to do so.

“They were exhibiting stubbornness and creating confusion; threatening and intimidating people in all the six polling centers I was monitoring…one of the NDC youth called for help at Asankragwa that NPP Invisible Forces are disturbing and the way he said it provoked the youth…I was sad and scared for the NPP boy. I didn’t know he is an Assembly man but he led the Invisible Force to frustrate people from voting and challenged that nobody can do anything to him and that provoked the NDC youth to beat him up,” he justified.
