The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has called on all leaders and citizens in the country to as a matter of morality show selfless commitment to addressing the challenges facing the church and the country, and resolve to fight corruption and other social ills in the Ghanaian society.
CCG threw the challenge in its Christmas Message to all Ghanaians which was contained in a press statement signed by its General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong.
According to the CCG, “Our leaders must use this season (Christmas) to reflect and re-examine their actions and in-actions which have contributed to the challenges we are facing as a nation today.”
It urged, “Leaders of this country must be prepared to make sacrifices beyond their immediate benefits and think of the salvation of generations beyond them, and demonstrate deeds that would safeguard the future of our country.”
CCG said that “Although our country is confronted with myriad challenges, the birth of Christ which brought hope and salvation to us should inspire us as a nation to look into the future with the hope that our country will certainly rise and become the shining star of Africa.”
It further admonished, “As a Council, we urge Christians and Ghanaians in general not to give up, but hold fast to God in prayer and deeds, and pursue peace before, during and after the 2016 general election.
“The birth of Jesus which brought salvation to mankind and the entire world is the greatest and most profound act by God which demonstrates His everlasting love and kindness towards us, despite our sins and weaknesses.”
“Christmas,” the Council stressed, “offers us the opportunity as a people and nation to emulate Jesus Christ in words and deeds by imbibing the core lessons of love, tolerance, sacrifice, generosity and peaceful co-existence which Christ stands for.”
