Ghana Football Association vice President George Afriyie is still thwarted by the country’s failure to make it to the 2015 Africa U17 Championships.

The Black Starlets were handed a one-year ban by the Confederation of African Football (CAF ) after fielding an unqualified player during the team’s qualifier against Cameroon.

Ghana having progressed to the Championships in Niger after eliminating their counterparts 6-3 on aggregate were disqualified after Cameroon filed a protest against Starlets midfielder Isaac Twum who was reported to have failed an MRI Scan.

George Afriyie recounting 2015 under review lamented on the county’s failure to make it to the U17 Championships despite sealing their place.

“I wouldn’t say is a challenge but is when the U17 qualified to the African Championships but could not make it when we were disqualified, “ he said.

“On our part I think we did everything we had to do, we are blameless, it becomes very difficult for you to blame the FA but what can you say since we administer football in this country we also have to take part of the blame.

“And so that is what I felt that it was a black spot on a whole.”

CAF recently lifted the ban on the team which have paved way for Ghana to participate in the next qualifying matches which begins next year.

The Black Starlets have failed to make it to the African Championships since winning bronze at the 2007 edition in Togo.
