Labourer Grabbed For Killing Student Girlfriend

A 30-year-old labourer, Kwasi Boateng, has been arrested in connection with the death of his 20-year-old student girlfriend of the Agona Senior High Technical School.

Kwaku Boateng, popularly known as Escobar, who was arrested by the police at Abu-suakruwa, in Kumasi, on December 27, 2015, has been provisionally charged with murder and being processed for court.

The victim, Esther Badu, was found dead on April 10, 2015, under a wooden electricity pole around the Suame Magazine New Road with a deep cut on the head.

According to Police Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Akonnor who briefed The Ghanaian Times on the incident, Esther Badu left the school on April 9, 2015 without permission from the authorities the previous day, ostensibly, to visit her brother who lived at Abusuakruwa.

She allegedly did not go to the brother, because she confided in a colleague student, Mary Prah, she was rather visiting her boyfriend, Boateng, who lived close to the Akwasi Oppong Senior High School on the Suame Magazine New Road.

She was never heard of until April 10, 2015 when her lifeless body was found.

Acting upon a report, the police visited Boateng’s home but he was nowhere to be found.

Police in Kumasi tried to trace the suspect but to no avail, and it was later revealed he had bolted to Sefwi, in the Western Region.

Luck, however, ran out on the suspect as he was finally arrested at his hideout after a telephone conversation with the deceased’s sister, Mavis Badu.

C/Supt. Akonnor said Boateng called Mavis Badu and had a chat with her, and she alerted her elder brother, Michael Kyei Mensah, who, together with his friends, stormed the hideout at Abusuakruwa to arrest him.
