Man Loses Lip Over Light Bill

A fight that ensued over non-payment of electricity bill has resulted in a young carpenter losing his lip.

The victim, Prince Koranteng Quarshie, carpenter, lost part of his lower lip when he disconnected the power of one George Adanu, a mason.

It is the case of the prosecution led by Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong that Adanu committed the act at about 7am on December 17 last year at Adenta Comandos, a suburb of Accra.

He was charged with the offence of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm.

The court presided over by trial judge Yaw Attah Sampong admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of GH¢2,000 with two sureties and adjourned hearing until January 26, 2016.

Narrating the series of events leading to the arrest of Adanu, Inspector Oppong said both the complainant and the accused live in the same house at Adenta Comandos and use electricity power connected by the complainant.

He said on the said date, Quarshie disconnected Adanu’s line for refusing to pay the light bill, stressing that this resulted in a fight between the two.

The police officer said in the process, Adanu bit half of the lower lip of Quarshie.

Inspector Oppong noted that a report was lodged at the police station and Adanu was arrested.

During interrogation, Adanu admitted the offence but claimed the act was in self-defence.
