Ejisu: Fire Personnel Prevent Bush Fire From Destroying Fuel Station

The timely intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) prevented a rampaging fire from destroyed a filling station, five fuel tankers, 10 vehicles and adjoining houses at Ejisu, opposite the Anita Hotel in the Ashanti Region.

The fire which was said to have been started by a man said to be mentally deranged, spread swiftly with the aid of the dried leaves and harmattan winds.
But for the fire fighter, high tension poles carrying electricity would have also been burnt down.

The Manager of the filling station, Mr Francis Agyare, sensing danger from the swift approach of the fire to the station, although walled, decided to call in the Fire Service who responded swiftly.

He explained that immediately after the call they realised that the intensity of the fire had doubled but thankfully when the fire fighters reached the scene, they brought it under control.

The mentally deranged man who was named only as Oduro was weeding around the concrete wall of Jo & Ju Filling station.

He told Graphic Online he started just a “small fire” after clearing the weeds.

Some wooden kiosks and other wooden structures erected by the road side by people who sell along the road, were razed down by the rampaging fires.

Since the first of January 2016, Kumasi in particular has experienced ravaging fires which has caused great damage to structures and property.
