General Secretary for Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Apostle Samuel Antwi, says they did not deliberately snub the National Chief Imam nor are they interested in stoking the embers of religious extremism in the matter of government's decision to house some former Guantanamo Bay detainees in Ghana. 

He was reacting to assertions by the Spokesperson to the Chief Imam, Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu, that the three major Christian groups in the country - the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCGC), the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) - disrespected the Office of the National Chief Imam by issuing statements tinged with religious undertones on the resettlement of Guantanamo Bay ex-detainees in Ghana, on the blind side of his boss.

To him, though Sheikh Shaibu's remarks were a tad too strong, as concerned religious leaders who want to enjoy continuous peace in this country, they will wish the matter is left to die a natural cause.

He explained why they failed to contact the Office of the National Chief Imam before issuing statements on the subject of the ex-detainees. 

“We don’t see it to be a Christian-Muslim issue because Al-Qaeda has never be treated as part of Islam, that was why my outfit did not consult them for any collaborative discussion as has been our custom all these years,” he indicated in an interview with Kwame Ajetia on NEAT FM’s morning show.

He said, issues concerning the ex-detainees have caused much misunderstanding as government was not forthcoming with information initially.
