Re-Development of Airport Land Phase -2Govt Halts Project

The expectations of some reckless land-fraudsters, who were ready to pounce on the Accra Airport Land, following government decision to undertake the phase ‘2’ of the area’s re-development project, have been dashed, as government has put the policy on ice.

According to The Informer’s impeccable sources, the decision by government to halt the Airport Phase 2 re-development exercise, is as a result of how some unscrupulous claiming to have strong affiliation with government, are duping unsuspecting persons with pretext of securing them portions of the land.

The modus operandi of these land-fraudsters, according to the paper’s source, is the use of some financial institutions and para-statals as beneficiaries of the exercise, to lend credibility to their criminal activity.

“What we (government) have picked up is that, these “fraudsters are in cahoots with some corrupt officials of the Ghana Lands Commission, ready to pounce on the Airport lands for onward sale to private individuals and companies, at a higher price, should the exercise [re-demarcation] come off.

Government has been advised about the political consequences of the exercise and, so has decided not to go ahead with it only for “fraudsters” to benefit at its expense,” the source added.

“We have heard that these dishonest characters, claiming to be allies of government are using institutions like the bank of Ghana (BoG). The Ghana Cocoa Board, and the Ghana Post Company, as beneficiaries of the said re-demarcation exercise, in a play to lure their gullible clients.

The fact is that, government has no such intention of re-locating the aforementioned institutions to the enclave as being fraudulently peddled by the fraudsters.

Even if they would be relocated, government will find a more conducive and brouhaha-free site for them to move to.

Government has in its own interest – to cut-short the criminal activates of these fraudsters from gaining grounds, halt the Airport Phase 2 re-demarcating exercise until further notice,” the source, sounding angry stated.

The informer, applauds the Government for the bold decision to stop in full flow, the reckless sale of government lands in the name of re-demarcation and, would humbly suggest that, it does not make any mistake to dislodge the men and women in uniform [police and military] living within the enclave, who are to be affected by the phase 2 exercise of the Airport re-demarcation.
