60 Travelers Attacked By Robbers

A driver was shot and injured, and over 60 passengers robbed of their mobile phones, and other personal belonging by highway robbers at Bonsu Nkwata, in the Western Region.

In one of the incident, which occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday night, the four armed men attacked and robbed travelers of cash and items worth thousands of Cedis.

A passenger told newsmen that they were travelling from Bonsu to Kumasi, and along the way there was a loud noise so they stopped thinking sometimes had fallen off the vehicle.

“As soon as we stopped, one of the robbers fired a gun into the driver’s windscreen, hitting him and some of the passengers. They then entered the vehicle and robbed us of our belongings.”

Another passenger said, “All I saw was a bullet hitting the driver, myself and two others. They then asked us to lie on the road and, they took away all our monies. They took about 1,700 cedis form me.”

The Juaboso Station officer, Chief Inspector Gabriel Nanewotor, who confirmed the incident, said the victims were receiving treatment at the SDA Hospital.

He said the police was hunting for the robbers.
