Consider Paying Us: Assembly Members

Members of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly have proposed that assembly members must be remunerated to motivate them in their work.

While conceding that their stewardship was voluntary, they nonetheless said some financial assistance from the government would go a long way to facilitate their work.

The proposal was made at a forum held by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) at Sowutuom in Accra on the role assembly members and unit committees play in their various electoral areas.
Forum

The forum was aimed at educating and creating awareness of the respective roles of the assembly members and unit committees in the electoral areas.

It was also meant to encourage residents to participate in the governance structure of the assembly.

The assembly members also asked to be given a form of identification to facilitate the execution of their duties in their areas, particularly to rally residents for communal exercises.

In an address, the Ga Central Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Charles Kotey, appealed to the regional administration to consider paying exgratia to the assembly members after their tenure.

He also charged them to ensure that the government had value for money.
