Public Account Committee Can Not Retrieve Judgment Debt Monies - PAC Chair.

Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Kweku Agyeman Manu has outlined the main duties of the committee as going through the correct procedures needed to bring out the names of individuals owning the State for prosecution.

According to him it is the executive arm of government that needs to go and recover the monies from individuals who own government after being found culpable through prosecution and public hearing, but not the Public Accounts Committee as most Ghanaians expect of them even after several explanations he has made through various media houses.

He advised journalists to report on issues that have happened and stop blaming his outfit to do things which do not fall within their capacity as far as judgment debt issues are concerned.

He insisted in an interview with JOY FM news that the fact that his office disclosed individuals who do not manage well the resources of the state by different reasons, does not mean the Public Accounts Committee have to take the monies physically from them.

PAC refers to a committee in the legislature that must study public audits, invite ministers, permanent secretaries or other ministry officials to the committee for questioning, and issue a report of their findings subsequent to a government budget audit.

Typically, the government is required to report back to parliament on PAC recommendations within a specified period, usually two to six months. More often than not, opposition members chair PACs in the commonwealth. Based on their findings, PACs often make recommendations to government ministries requiring that they change certain policies and procedures to improve their operations.
