Brong-Ahafo Expanding Electricity And Water Coverage � Regional Minister

The Brong-Ahafo Region has achieved 100 percent of electricity coverage with 600 additional communities connected to the national grid in 2015.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Eric Opoku, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, said many communities in the Region were hooked on the national grid last year.

He said the power supply would open up economic opportunities in rural and deprived areas as various investors have expressed the desire to invest in the Region.

Mr Opoku said Brong-Ahafo has made significant achievements in water supply, with the Region recording about 70 percent coverage of water.

He said 1,200 mechanised boreholes were installed in the Region adding that an additional 100 boreholes are expected to be constructed and handed-over to 20 communities by the end of March.

Mr Opoku said in the Berekum Municipality government made a huge investment in water supply with the laying of 127- kilometer pipelines to various areas in the municipality.

The Regional Minister said a feasibility study and impact assessment had been completed at Johnsonkrom in the Sunyani West District for work to commence on a water project.

On completion, he said, the facility would be able to pump an excess of 10 million gallons of water per day.

Mr Opoku said the Region also witnessed an improvement in the road, education, health and agric sectors.
