ECG Vendors Want Protection Against Angry Customers

Vendors of the Electricity Company of Ghana, (ECG) in Accra, have appealed to the police to protect them from the wrath of angry customers. They said, consumers of the ECG were angry about the 59.2 per cent increment on electricity tariffs and they (customers) also blame them for the fast reading of their credit on the meters and not providing them with the required credit they purchase. Miss Edith Donkor, a vendor at Pig Farm, Accra said, since the increment of tariffs on electricity, she has frequently been accused by customers of not providing them the right amount of credit on the prepaid cards. She pleaded with the ECG to educate the public on the new tariff increment. Mr. Mohammed Alhassan, a customer, at Nima, in Accra, lamented that the electricity credit he bought at GH150.00 lasted for only three days, saying this is unreasonable; I am demanding the remaining credit from them. Mr. Ernest Anokye, a tailor, said he bought GH200 worth of credit, which lasted for a week, and he had to queue to buy another amount of credit.
