Sack 2 Managers: Kasoa Interchange Workers Demand

Workers on the Kasoa interchange in the Central Region last Tuesday demonstrated against the Brazilian construction company, Queiroz Galvao, over what they described as “ill treatment” meted out to them by the management.

The workers, numbering about 200, specifically demanded that two of the managers, whose names were given only as Migual and Fernando, resign else they would stop working at the site.

Dressed in their working gear and wearing red arm bands, the group blocked the entrance to the premises of Queiroz Galvao in a bid to stop the two managers from accessing the building.

The group also demanded that the management of Queiroz Galvao reinstate 12 workers who they said were unfairly dismissed.
According to them, the workers were sacked on the mere excuse that Miguel and Fernando didn’t like them.

Mere hatred
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the leader of the group, Mr Justice Boakye Gyimah, said the behaviour of the two managers of Queiroz Galvao had made working at the company extremely difficult and that any of them could be the next victim.

He said although workers on the Kasoa interchange were working hard to ensure the speedy execution of the project, Miguel and Fernando had resorted to ‘abusing’ them when they had not committed any offence.

“We came to work in the morning only to realise that some of our colleagues had been dismissed for no reason. All attempts to find out why they were dismissed has not yielded any results because management is tight lipped,” Mr Gyimah said.

According to him, evidence gathered by some of the workers revealed that all the dismissed workers had been in the employment of Queiroz Galvao for about three months which required that management made them permanent employees.

“What makes the whole situation very annoying is that immediately they dismiss a worker, they bring in another person the next day,” he added.
