Police Search For Alleged Fraudster

The Odorkor District Police Command has mounted a search for a 71-year-old man alleged to have defrauded a businessman of GH¢24,600.

The suspect, Ernest Adu Baffour, is said to have collected the money on the pretext of helping the businessman to rent a storey-building at East Legon, Accra for residential purposes.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Odorkor Crime Officer, DSP Emmanuel Osei Agbogah said the businessman had contacted Baffour through a mobile number displayed on a house for rent at East Legon.

He said after the businessman had expressed interest in the house, a man, who posed as an agent, took him to inspect the property.

Meeting in a house

Later, the businessman was led to a house at Atico in Accra to meet Baffour, who introduced himself as the owner of the building.

After the money had been paid to Baffour, Mr Agbogah said, he promised to hand over the keys to the building after two days since there were a few works to be done on the property.

However, calls to the mobile phone of Baffour and the agent were unanswered for days and later they were unreachable.

“When the businessman went to the house to look for Baffour he was told there was no one in the house by that name. But the complainant claims he was ushered  into the living room and served water in the same house on the day he paid the money for the rent to Baffour,” DSP Agbogah said.

The case was, therefore, reported to the Odorkor police who has since been hunting for the suspect.
