THE HEADMASTER of Bomaa Senior High School in the Tano North District of the Brong Ahafo Region, Hayford Biney, on Monday did the unthinkable by sacking students who owed school fees to go home at about 8:30pm during prep time.
He offered to provide his own car to convey students to Duayaw Nkwanta, the district capital, where they could join public transport to go to their various destinations in the night. The move angered students and therefore brought an abrupt end to prep time.
The incident further disrupted academic work the following day, making the SRC of the school to present a petition to the Tano North district director of education for the removal of the headmaster from his post. According to a student source who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on phone on condition of anonymity, the “students are not ready to work with that man.”
The district education director received the petition and promised to act upon their demand. According to the source, the district director said he would be acting as headmaster till the students’ petition was looked into.
Narrating to DAILY GUIDE what led to the sending of the students home, our source said last Monday at about 8:30pm the students were at preps when the headmaster assembled them and told the boarders that all those who owed feeding fees should go home. The students did not agree and complained of the timing of the decision and pleaded to be made to go the next day. The headmaster refused and offered to use his car to convey seven students he identified as owing the school to Duawyaw Nkwanta to join public transport to go to their various destinations.
Mr Hayford, who DAILY GUIDE learnt has been at post for less than a year, has reportedly had problems with students and so the students are saying they cannot accept him as their headmaster. He has therefore been called to the district education office.
