Police Officer Detained For Killing Murder Suspects

The Police administration has detained one of its officers Sergeant Adorye who shot and killed a murder suspect and his accomplice this morning at the Nmai Dzor, near East Legon in Accra.

A police team was in the area to arrest the suspect who is believed to have killed a young man during last year’s Homowo festivities.

The officer in question, opened fire after the victims; forty year old Adesha Bagagyi, and twenty six year Joseph Adjei, after they attempted to use a machete and an axe to stop the arrest.

Addressing a press conference, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command ASP Afia Tenge said they are looking into the matter.

“On the instructions of the regional commander, that is COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the following actions have been taken so far. The police officer whose action caused these fatalities has been detained in accordance with police regulations and standard policing practices. Currently a team of investigators and crime scene experts are at the scene of the incident and the families of the victims have been contacted to assist police in investigations”, she stated.

Briefing the press, ASP Tenge stated that a warrant had been issued for the arrest of Adesha Bagagyi and added that “the other person who was harbouring him died in the process”.

She added that the victims died in the hospital while receiving treatment.

The police investigations she added, will determine whether the detained police officer used excessive force or not.
