Ministry of Health Directed To Pay Its Own Utility Bills Says Minister

The Minister for Health Alex Segbefia says his Ministry has been directed by government to pay its own cost of electricity and water at all health facilities across the country.

According to him, the Ministry is drawing up a plan to use part of its budgetary allocation for goods and services to pay for the electricity and water bills.

“The position of government is that all facilities should begin to look at measures they would take to pay their own bills within the goods and services budget utilities account. Therefore, we should begin to look at the components that are put up for utilities within the goods and services budget,” he indicated in an interview with Joy News.

He also pointed that; “We are coming to do an exercise, which I have already mentioned to the financial controller to see how best we can engage the Ministry, the agencies that work under us and Ghana Health Service as a separate entity and all its facilities that work under it, to see a way that would enable us begin an effective stand on this directive.”
