Robbery Leader Nabbed At Kasoa

The Kasoa district police have arrested a man believed to have recruited robbers to terrorise residents of Amanfrom and Kasoa in the Central Region.

The suspect, identified as Mike Keelson, 25, who was recently released on bail in a robbery case after being in custody for four years and described by the police as a notorious and dangerous man, was nabbed while he was relocating to Tema with his wife and child.

Police reports stated that the suspect was released on bail on June 4, 2015 by an Accra high court.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Kasoa District Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Tibil Punobyin, said Keelson was allegedly involved in a series of robberies at Kasoa, Amanfrom and their surrounding areas.

Keelson was said to be the leader of a gang of robbers but most of his gang members have been arrested while two were lynched last year at Kasoa.

Information received indicated that Keelson recruited hoodlums from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra and other places whenever he had a robbery operation to carry out.

Numerous attempts by the police to arrest the suspect and some of his new gang members had been unsuccessful but luck eluded him when police had information of his relocation to Tema and managed to  arrest him at Okpeikuma near Accra.

According to Supt Punobyin, preliminary investigations had also indicated that Keelson sold his booty, which included mobile phones, wax prints and other electronic gadgets, to some traders at cheap prices.

Some victims from Amanfrom and Kasoa, Supt Punobyin said, identified Keelson as the leader of the gang which attacked them in their homes during an identification parade at the Amanfrom District Police Station.

Some of the stolen items retrieved from the suspect included mobile phones, wax prints, mobile phone cases, a military cap and a bag.

He is being prepared for court to face robbery charges.
