Eric Bekoe Asks Fans To Stop Tagging Returnees With "Old Age"

The Hasmal striker insists that many Ghanaian players abroad fail to return to the local scene due to "old age" tag by a section of fans.

Sekondi Hasaacas new signing Eric Bekoe has advised local fans to throw their support behind players who are making a comeback to the local league after their stints abroad.

Bekoe, 29, joined Hasaacas on transfer deadline day after playing at Egyptian side Petrojet but some local fans have ridiculed his move, tagging him as an old horse.

“The young players in the local league can learn a lot from our experience during training and on match days. If fans keep saying that we are old men, it will discourage a lot of players who want to return to the premier league from their moves from abroad,” Bekoe told Peace FM

“These same fans who keep on complaining and tag returnees ageing players are the same people that complain that there are few experienced players in the local league.

“Last season, Great Olympics showed to all of us that we need experience players after signing Richard Kingson, Dan Quaye and others,” he added.

Bekoe won the top scorer award in 2008, scoring 17 goals to help Asante Kotoko win the league title.

The 2015-16 Ghana Premier League is billed to kick off on February 20 and end on August 28.
