Fear Grips Mampong And Environs As Bufalos Storm Villages And Attack Residents

Fear has gripped residents of Ashanti Mampong and its surrounding villages in the especially Kyirefaso, Bobeng and Besease after Bufalos reportedly stormed their homes and severely injured an old lady and destroyed properties.

The animals are believed to have emanated from the thick forests in neighbouring towns of Nkoranza and Adwira which have been burnt due to the severe harmattan condition.

The arrival of the ‘unwanted guests’ in the towns has left the residents sitting on tenterhooks as they are unable to determine when the Bufalos will strike again.

The development has made it difficult for the residents to sleep peacefully at night and has also disrupted their social lives.

Hunters in the town mobilized themselves together with the police and neibhourhood watchdog committee on Tuesday and managed to kill one of the Bufalos. But just when they thought they had gained some relief, they heard reports of another Bufalo lurking dangerously into the town.

A hunter by name Mensah Sarpong told Kasapa News that after he and his colleagues once again chased the marauding animal, but upon getting close to it, they realized that the guns they wielded were not powerful enough to kill the animal.

He said they then called for assistance from the Police to kill the buffalos but the law enforcement officers disappointingly failed to come to their aid.

Speaking to Kasapa News, the Mampong Divisional Police Commander Superintendent Bismark Agyepong refuted the allegation by the hunter and insisted that the animal that was earlier killed was rather a mad cow as was certified by veterinary doctors and not a buffalo.

He disclosed that the police are liaising with the Wildlife authorities to see how best they can contain the dangerous animal.

Superintendent Bismark Agyepong urged the residents to be calm as the various agencies strategize to kill the bufalos should they strike again.
