The police have confirmed that within the past two years, 11 people have lost their lives on their farms allegedly as a result of altercations with Fulani herdsmen in the Agogo area.

The last killing occurred as recent as January 11, this year.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, told a media briefing in Kumasi that all the murder suspects have been arrested and detained.

He said they had already secured the conviction of one of them, Shaibu Osman, who the Juaso Circuit Court, sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.

The rest of the cases were either under investigation or awaiting advice from the Attorney General’s Department.

He called for calm among the Agogo youth, who are threatening a showdown with the Fulani.

The Regional Commander reminded them that taking the law into their hands and resorting to violence was not the path to travel.

They should rather collaborate with the security agencies to find a way out to provide adequate security protection for everybody.

The youth in Agogo are furious over what they perceive to be the inaction of the appropriate state institutions to stop the suspected activities of the nomads.

Led by the Member of Parliament, Mr Kwadwo Baah Agyemeng, they say they would no longer accommodate the impunity with which suspected Fulanis are killing and maiming their kinsmen, raping of their women, destroying their farms and water bodies and vowed to evict them from the area.
