Fire Guts 34 Houses At Ative

A fire outbreak has razed down 34 thatched houses at Ative-Korfevie, a farming community in the Ketu-North district of the Volta Region rendering about 134 people homeless.

Though no life was lost because many of the residents had gone to their farms when the incident occurred, a lot of personal belonging worth thousands of cedis were gutted by the fire.

The fire which started at about 1pm on Wednesday, according to some residents was suspected to have been caused by some game hunters who set fire to a nearby bush.

Personal items such as clothes, food, utensils, roofing sheets, and farm produce harvested including maize were burnt to ashes.

Officials of the Ghana National fire service from Akatsi and Dzodze had a hectic time putting off the fire which had caught up some electricity cables.  About fifteen electric poles were destroyed.

It is said to have taken the officials over four hours to control the fire.

The Deputy District Co-ordinator of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Bright Martin Dela Alormatu told Graphic Online that the affected people had been relocated to a nearby vocational school building while arrangements were being made for relief items for them.
