The Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON) has suggested the need for government and other stakeholders to establish conflict healing centres in the conflict zones of the country.
The conference said the centres could serve as avenues for the restoration of peace in Bawku and Dagbon.
Ms. Agnes Gandaa, TEPPCON Partnership Co-ordinator made the suggestion in Wa on Tuesday at a two-day workshop on the role of the Northern woman in conflict prevention, resolution and transformation, which was attended by several identifiable women�s groups in the Upper West Region.
TEPPCON is an organisation within the Northern Province of the Catholic Church.
The workshop aimed at enhancing the understanding of women in peace building and make them effective campaigners for peace and conflict transformation.
Ms. Gandaa said firm and effective restoration of lasting peace in Northern Ghana was the core priority of TEPPCON to promote development and good governance, which could facilitate justice, peace and respect for the rule of law and the dignity of the human being.
Mr. Isaac Owusu-Mensah, Senior Programmes Manager of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which sponsored the workshop express regret that petty misunderstandings that could be resolved through dialogue had often, resulted in conflicts in Northern Ghana.
He said women as mothers and wives could play a key role in changing the mindset of their spouses and sons to do away with violent conflicts, which were giving Northern Ghana a bad image.
Mr. David Yakubu Regional Co-ordinating Director, who represented the Regional Minister appealed to the chiefs and people of the region to use the legal structures in resolving their differences.
