Danquah Institute Is A Double Standard Unserious Organization - NDC Dep. Gen. Sec.

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Lawson has rendered the demand of policy think tank Danquah Institute (DI) for the Electoral Commission (EC) to stop the limited registration for the fresh voters as irrelevant.

According to him, the Danquah Institute (DI) cannot dictate to the Electoral Commission on its constitutional duty to carry out independent service as to how to go about the electoral processes ahead of the November 7, 2016 general election.

Danquah Institute (DI) on Monday called on the Electoral Commission not to go ahead with its planned limited registration of fresh voters ahead of the November polls until it has implemented a validation exercise recommended by a Panel set up by the EC to moderate a debate for or against calls for an entirely new register.

But with this demand, the deputy Chief Scribe of the NDC on Okay Fm’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show indicated it is wrong for the Danquah Institute (DI) to make a straight forward demand as if it controls the activities of the EC.

He added the Danquah Institute (DI) should have rather sent a proposal to the Electoral Commission to reconsider its thought on how to resolve the issues raised by the 5 Member Panel set up by the EC and not use vulgar language on them.

He apparently was amazed at the sharp turn of the Danquah Institute (DI) to depend on points from the Committee that the same institute had criticized to be bias against the NPP ahead of the forum.

He however averred that the Danquah Institute (DI) has portrayed a “double standard” character to fight the EC on the directives of the Committee that they kicked against before it begun its work, emphasizing that the institute has no serious minded people manning it.

“Are they serious-minded people? Gabby said some of the members of the committee have taken sides on the voters register debate and today DI is glorifying those people. Nobody is supposed to take them serious because before the committee started its work, they demonized them and now they are glorifying the committee; they are very dangerous,” he jabbed.

He pinpointed that the Danquah Institute has jumped the gun because there will be another Constitutional Instrument (CI) before the November 7 general election; thus it has been agreed by all the political parties that registration should be an ongoing exercise, making the demand of the DI irrelevant.

He admonished the DI to stop antagonizing the EC and allow them the space to be focused in discharging their duties without any distraction in order to ensure free-fair general election in November 7, 2016.
