A renowned Security Expert with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr. Kwesi Aning has warned the handlers of the Fulani-Agogo clash to tread cautiously in order not to create the basis for ISIS recruitment and attacks in the country.

According to him, the security handlers in the country have taken too light the penetration of ISIS activities in the country, especially the recent case of a Ghanaian student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who joined the Islamic militant group.

Commenting on reports that Ghana is hosting Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, an Islamic scholar with alleged terrorism links, Dr. Kwesi Aning said he was not surprised to see the return of such people in the country.

Venting out his worry over the Fulani-Agogo clash, he said on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show that, the traits under which people are enticed to join the ISIS group are being shown in the Fulani-Agogo case.

“We have to look at this through the way people speak, through victim-hold, exclusion, pain . . . and this has a link with the Fulani’s case which if we don’t take care, it creates the basis for ISIS recruitment and attacks in the country,” he admonished.

He revealed that the ISIS group has created the environment for the brotherhood and the sense of belonging as seen in their videos; stressing that when the people (Fulanis) feel pushed at one corner, they can be easily recruited.
