Asante Youth Support Afoko

Suspended National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s decision to fight his indefinite suspension at the law court has received a major boost as a pro-NPP group based in the Ashanti region, Youth for Afoko, has thrown their weight behind him.

According to the group, Paul Afoko’s dream of upholding the tenets and ideologies of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition “is what drives us most to support him”

In a statement jointly signed by leaders of the group, Barima Sarpong, Charles Macarthy and Nana Yaw Sarpong, the group noted that they share in the sentiments of the suspended Chairman for which reason he is seeking redress in court.

“We urge our numerous members across the breadth and length of this country and overseas not to flounder or get discouraged as the battle still remains the Lord's.”

“Mr Afoko is the Washington of our time who can only see Hessians at Trenton and not the Delaware chocked with Ice. We are proud and humbled to rally behind such a brave Giant. We consider the court action taken by Mr. Paul Afoko which will soon begin as the last stage of our party's resurrection,” the statement noted.

The National Executive of the NPP last year suspended Paul Afoko indefinitely for violating sections of the party’s constitution. His suspension was based on complaint filed by two stalwarts of the party from the Northern region.

He has however tagged his suspension illegal and has since filed a case in court to overturn the verdict of the party’s NEC.

As the hearing of the case is expected to commence in the coming days, the Youth for Afoko, noted that “We fully support this noble cause which is aimed at assessing and shaping our party's constitution for the future generation, the completion of which providence has reserved for this fortunate age.”

“We will not put up arms. We will rather form part of this country's history as young men and women, who paved way to political freedom, where dissenting views were accommodated and the duly elected were respected.

A day is coming where we will exhibit our victory to the whole world from the links of our fetters at the museum of freedom and the oppressors and mighty would disappear like dust.

We are looking forward to a new dawn of our beloved party, where factionalism would be eschewed, rancor departed and quarrels forgotten,” the statement added.
