E C To Increase Polling Stations From 26,000 To 29,000

Public Relations Officer for the Electoral Commission, Mr. Christian Owusu Parry says the commission has realized it is necessary to increase the polling station numbers from 26,000 to 29,000 after work done by the committee set by the commission to review the voters register.

According to him, the polling stations have been increased in order to prevent long queues at the various polling stations on Election Day, and also make voting end early for counting to be done in broad day light.

Speaking to Peace FM News, he said, “The commission met today (Monday) to inaugurate the 18 member committee from the various key organizations who are much involved in the EC’s transactions especially during election time. So from now the group would be part of every meeting the commission holds which is towards the 7th November elections to emanate free and fair elections."

Members selected were from the Ghana Police, prison service and military experts of which Mrs. Charlotte Osei would be the head of the committee.

He noted that the commission has proposed to parliament asking them to make it constitutional for journalists to also vote as special voters due to the various roles they play on the field during elections.
