Angry Kwaebibirem Youth Decry Underdevelopment

Aggrieved youth in the Kwaebibirem districts are calling for the transfer of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Co-ordinator in the district, alleging that he has sold goods meant for victims to undeserving persons.

They stated that there is enough evidence and proof to back their claim of theft at the organisation and some workers of the assembly.

They are also claiming to have in their possession petitions from a number of towns accusing the assembly.

Because of this canker, they say poor local people who have been affected by natural disasters have been denied what is constitutionally and rightfully theirs.

The youth are demanding that the whole district assembly be investigated, especially the agriculture and NADMO departments.

Meanwhile, the youth are asking to be engaged in the affairs of the district, explaining that if the youth are informed, they would know what is going on in their district.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, farmers in some parts of the district were asked to come for slightly damaged cocoa spraying machines which they could repair and reuse, but the youth claim the corruption aspect was that these poor farmers were made to pay an amount of GH₵40 each for the machines.

Some of these machines, they say, are in their possession as evidence. The farmers, who are from Adenkyensu, Sainya, Takyiman and Nyame Bԑkyerԑ, are all aggrieved because they feel the agriculture officers of the district have swindled them.

The youth are also blaming the assemblies and its various authorities in the districts for what they described as a total neglect of the youth and poor development.

Though Kwaebibirem can boast of the largest palm oil-producing firm in Ghana, the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC) at Kwae, the natives cannot boast of any public facility, be it a public community centre, youth centre, potable water or even a common public toilet.

First, they bemoaned development as a huge problem in the district, saying not even one of the 42 towns in the district can boast of any interventions instituted by the district assembly to better the lives of the inhabitants, attributing this to the lackadaisical nature of the district assembly towards helping its own citizens.

They also want all towns and people who were unattended to after the natural disasters, as well as farmers whose monies were unduly taken repaid in full.
