'Speed Up Negotiations With Striking Veterinary Technicians

Poultry farmers in Ghana have made a passionate appeal to government to speed up negotiations with the striking veterinary technicians.

Speaking in an interview, vice-president of Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers, Napoleon Agyemang Oduro said: "The contribution of the technicians to poultry farmers and livestock industry in general cannot be over-emphasised, and everything must be done to end their strike action".

He said the unavailability of the technicians to carry out extension services, inspect meat product and treat livestock and poultry diseases puts the entire citizenry at great risk and could also spell the doom for the investments made by stakeholders in the industry.

"We need the technicians back as soon as possible to assist the industry to remain productive," he stressed.

It would be recalled that the Ghana Veterinary Medical Technicians across the country withdrew their services following the failure of government and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) to address their market premiums which have not been paid for close to five years under the Single Spine Salary Structure.
