NPP Chairman Dies

The Western Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been dealt a heavy blow following the sudden death of the party’s 1st vice chairman in the region at about 7:00 am yesterday.

The late regional 1st vice chairman, Ben Kwaw, who until his demise was acting as the regional chairman of the party after the substantive chairman, Dickson Atta Nketsiah aka Kendicks, had fallen sick for a while.

Mr Ben Kwaw, a native of Enchi in the Aowin district of the region, was 56 years.

According to a source close to the regional NPP, the late Acting Regional Chairman held a series of meetings with the rest of the regional executives last Friday to strategize for effective campaign towards election 2016.

The meetings were also to discuss plans for some campaign programmes that the regional executives had decided to embarked on in collaboration with some national executives of the party.

The cause of his death was not immediately known, but Mr Ben Kwaw reportedly collapsed at his residence at Airport Ridge when preparing to go and chair the Regional Executive Committee meeting on Monday.

He was quickly rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi for treatment.

However, DAILY GUIDE gathered that Mr Kwaw was pronounced dead upon reaching the hospital.

The lifeless body of the 54-year-old man has been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta hospital.

Mohammed Abdul Ganiyu, Western Regional Organizer of the NPP, confirmed the death of Mr Ben Kwaw in an interview.

Mr Ganiyu, who was visibly astonished after hearing the sad news, told DAILY GUIDE that the Acting General Secretary, who doubles as the National Organizer, John Boadu, was in the region for some party duties.

“And so we were all gearing up to meet him in the morning and so I decided to call the Acting Chairman only to be told that he had passed on.”

Meanwhile, the Communications Officer of the NPP in the region, Okatakyie Amankwa Afrifa, has indicated that the party would soon issue an official statement on the matter.

The last interview Mr Ben Kwaw granted DAILY GUIDE was last Friday during which he called for calm in the NPP in the Kwesimintsim constituency.
