Barbaric! Woman Dumps Baby In Chemu Lagoon

Residents of  Shiabu, a suburb of Dansoman in the Greater Accra Regional are still wondering why a woman could carry a pregnancy for nine months and finally dump the baby into a lagoon.

Residents woke up Sunday morning to discover a-day-old baby abandoned in the Chemu Lagoon close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Women, men and children who came to the scene could not hide their displeasure and shock and hurled insults and curses on the unidentified woman who callously dumped the baby in the lagoon.’

According to some residents, the wicked woman might have dumped the baby at dawn because there was power cut in the area.

The baby was found dead in the open Chemu Lagoon with white cloth beside it full of blood stains.

In an interview with the Daily Heritage, a resident who lives close to where the incident took place, Samuel Nartey, said the incident was the second in a space of six months, adding that residents in the area are on high alert to unravel the mystery behind the barbaric act.

He added that they found the dead baby in the lagoon around 7:00 am when a 13-year-old girl, who saw what, was in the lagoon and raised an alarm which attracted onlookers to the scene.

“We found the baby already dead in the lagoon so we decided to call the Assemblyman but unfortunately we were told he had travelled. The boys organized themselves and dug a pit right at the edge of the lagoon and buried the baby,” Mr. Nartey stated.

When asked why they refused to report the incident to the police but went ahead and buried the baby, he said “We don’t know the person who did this and moreover, no one can follow the long process, after all, the baby is dead and the mother of the baby is not know.”

“We are going to put our ears on the ground and hope we will find the woman who did this horrendous act and drag her to the police,” he stated.
